GOAL Scholarship Program Publishes 2011-2012 Annual Report
GOAL secures 34% of statewide contributions and awards 5,631 scholarships through 2011
Atlanta - July 10, 2012 - Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program, Inc. (GOAL) has published its 2011-2012 Annual Report. GOAL is the largest student scholarship organization operating under the Georgia law that allows taxpayers to receive a state income tax credit for making charitable contributions to student scholarship organizations. GOAL uses the contributions to award scholarships to deserving students who desire to attend accredited k4 through grade 12 private schools throughout Georgia.
GOAL’s latest Annual Report reveals that:
• In 2011, 5,640 Georgia taxpayers contributed a total of $12,819,123 to GOAL.
• From program inception in 2008 through 2011, 16,835 individuals and corporations contributed a total of $40,836,195 to GOAL, 34% of all contributions made statewide.
• For the 2011-2012 academic year, GOAL awarded 2,508 scholarships totaling $9.6 million.
• From inception through 2011, GOAL awarded 5,631 scholarships totaling $21.8 million, with 83% of the awards going to families earning less than $36,000.
• From inception through 2011, GOAL obligated 94% of all contributions for scholarships, resulting in a 6% administrative fee (significantly less than the 10% fee permitted under the law). All contributions not used in the present academic year are obligated to fund scholarship recipient tuition payments for the 2012-2013 academic year and beyond.
• In 2011, GOAL created a groundbreaking model for corporate participation, forming the BP-GOAL Scholars Fund as a result of generous participation in this program by BP and its subsidiary Castrol.
• GOAL is governed by an independent Board of Directors, which consists of eleven members with vast experience in education, business, juvenile justice, law, and philanthropy.
The GOAL Annual Report includes supportive statements from GOAL Board Chairman Rick Gilbert, President and CEO of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Chris Clark, and GOAL Scholarship recipient Katie Hughes. A leader in SSO transparency and accountability, GOAL has published an Annual Report in each of the last three years.
