GOAL Scholarship Program Publishes 2012 Annual Report
GOAL secures 32% of statewide contributions and awards 8,681 scholarships through 2012

Atlanta – April 26, 2012 - Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program, Inc. (GOAL) has published its 2012 Annual Report. GOAL is the largest student scholarship organization operating under the Georgia law that allows taxpayers to receive a state income tax credit for making charitable contributions to student scholarship organizations. GOAL uses the contributions to award scholarships to deserving students who desire to attend accredited k4 through grade 12 private schools throughout Georgia.

GOAL’s latest Annual Report reveals that:

• In 2012, 6,079 Georgia taxpayers contributed a total of $13,418,333 to GOAL.

• From program inception in 2008 through 2012, 22,914 individuals and corporations contributed a total of $54,254,528 to GOAL, 32% of all contributions made statewide.

• In 2012, GOAL awarded 3,366 scholarships totaling $12.5 million.

• From inception through 2012, GOAL awarded 8,681 scholarships totaling $33.2 million, with 82% of the awards going to families earning less than $36,000.

• From inception through 2012, GOAL obligated 93.7% of all contributions for scholarships, resulting in a 6.3% administrative fee (significantly less than the 10% fee permitted under the law). All contributions not used in the present academic year are obligated to fund scholarship recipient tuition payments for the 2013-2014 academic year and beyond.

• GOAL is governed by an independent Board of Directors, which consists of eleven members with vast experience in education, business, juvenile justice, law, and philanthropy.

During 2012, GOAL was one of the key leaders of a successful effort to have the Georgia General Assembly add much-needed SSO transparency and accountability to the education expense tax credit program. GOAL also engaged in a successful Raise the Cap! petition campaign that resulted in 3,500 individuals expressing their support for an increase in the annual cap on available education expense credits.
